About Stormtrooper League

“Stormtrooper league is the ultimate battle between robots on soccer field with accessories.” This time the robots will not only have to rip apart the opponent’s robot, but it will also have to show excellent tackling skill to score goals. Each Team has to come up with a robot. This is a 1 on 1 type game. The bots from both the teams must attack by making goals and at the same time prevent a goal too. The team with the most number of goals wins.

RULES

1. A team may consist of up to 3 participants.
2. Participants may use as many straws as they like, but they will only be given 36 inches of masking tape.
3. Each team will be allowed to use a pair of scissors to cut their tape and straws.
4. They will be given 3 hours to complete this task. At the end of the time allocation judges will measure their team’s cantilever distance. The structure must be free standing at the end of 3 hours.
5. Structures must be free standing. During the judging the teams will not be allowed to support their structure with their hands.
6. The structure may not touch the ground or anything other than the table top to which it is attached.
7. Structures will be measured perpendicularly from the edge of the table.

Tips:
1. You may use masking tape to attach your structure to the table top.
2. Building vertically will help you build horizontally out over the edge of the table.
3. Your time will be limited. Arrive at the competition with a plan for building your structure. You can practice before you arrive.
4. Straws are much stronger in tension than compression. You can demonstrate this by pulling on the ends of a straw (tension) in comparison to pushing on the ends of a straw (compression). When a long length of a straw is compressed it fails under column buckling. Be sure to support straws which are under compression.
5. Have fun and enjoy the challenge.
